Even though the temperature has dropped, it’s still reasonably warm
this December, in Texas. If you’re planning to enjoy the weather
by driving around on your motorcycle, follow these tips to ensure a safe ride.
Check Your Motorcycle
There’s nothing like hopping on your motorcycle for a spontaneous
drive around town to get your blood pumping. Before you do, make sure
you do a full check over your whole bike and look for any problems. If
you haven’t used your bike for a long time you may have to check
your fuel levels and reposition your mirrors. Check the chain, brakes,
turn signal and everything else that is important to ensure there are
no problems that will come up on your ride.
Wear Proper Gear
Although it might be costly, it’s important to get a quality helmet
to protect you if an accident does occur. Try to get a helmet with a face
shield, and if you don’t have one it’s important to wear glasses
with safety lenses to shield your eyes. In the state of Texas, it is legally
required for all riders to wear a helmet, so you might as well invest
in one that has the ability to save your life. Other items that might
come in handy are gloves and a thick jacket to protect your body from
getting scratched up if you do fall.
This might sound like a no brainer, but it’s important to drive safely
at anytime of the year. Remember that other cars might not be able to
see you, especially if it’s at night and you aren’t wearing
reflective or bright clothing. Follow the traffic laws and don’t
drive on the shoulder or cut in between cars.
