When you’re shopping for a new car, finding a vehicle that can keep
your family safe is probably one of your top priorities. So to help you
out, we’ve compiled a short list of the latest technologically savvy
safety features to be on the lookout for.
Lane Departure Warning Systems. Cameras and other sensors detect the vehicle’s position in the lane
and alert you if you drift out of the lines. Common alerts include a high-pitched
noise or a vibrating steering wheel.
Rearview Cameras. A rearview camera can show you what’s going on behind your car as
you back up. The image from the camera is displayed onto a small screen
on the dashboard.
Reverse Backup Sensors. These sensors will begin beeping if you get too close to an object while
in reverse. The more frequent the beeps, the closer you’re getting
to a collision.
Automatic Braking. One of the more exciting safety features to emerge in the last few years
is the automatic braking system. This system uses sensors at the front
of your car to detect when you’re about to have a frontal collision
and applies the brakes for you.
Pre-Crash Warning System. This feature alerts you with visual or auditory cues that you’re
about to collide with an object in front of you. The system can also automatically
adjust seats and headrests to prepare for a collision.
Electronic Stability Control. This feature helps correct a swerving vehicle by applying brakes to individual
wheels and giving the driver a chance to regain control. It’s a
standard safety requirement on all 2012 models and later.
