Earlier this week a
video went viral, which isn’t something new for most of us that have access to the
internet. There was no laughing baby, funny falls, or cute cats though.
This video went viral for different reasons than you would expect. It
was a video of a young man confessing that he had killed somebody because
he had been drinking and driving. Matthew Cordle earnestly admitted to
killing a Navy vet, despite the fact that he hadn’t been charged
and against his lawyers judgement. He stated in the video he would turn
himself in and take full responsibility for his actions.
The YouTube video was produced by “Because I Said I Would” an organization that encourages people to better the world through
promises and good deeds. The video of Matthew Cordle confessing was to
raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving. At the end of
the video he pleads for others not to drink and drive, using his story
as an example.
Drinking and Driving
Drinking and driving is a serious charge with severe consequences. On average
every year in the United States there are over 900,000
DWI/DUI. Any deaths
related to drinking and driving is too many. Take these two tips to ensure
your safety and that you won’t drink and drive.
- Designated driver- Determine who will keep the group safe when you go out,
that person isn’t allowed to drink and will make sure everybody
gets home safe. You can switch who does it each week to keep it fair and fun.
- Cab or sober friend- Have the cab number saved in your phone or a trustworthy
friend you can call in an emergency if you have been drinking too much.
If you get caught drinking and driving you don’t want to handle it alone.
