April Product Recalls

Every week consumer products are recalled due to safety and injury hazards. Below we've listed a few high-profile recalls from the month of April. If you have any of the following products in your home, stop using them immediately.

Cub Cadet 2011 Commercial Zero Turn Mowers. The fuel can leak from the fuel tank during operation and poses a risk of fire. So far Cub Cadet has received 106 reports of fuel leakage and one report of fire. No injuries have been reported. Around 2,100 mowers were sold at Cub Cadet dealers nationwide from January 2011 through January 2013.

Giada De Laurentiis Lasagna Pans. The handles of the pan can break and crack, posing a laceration hazard. 148,700 pans were sold at Target stores nationwide and on Target.com from January 2009 through October 2012. So far Target has received 39 reports of the pans breaking and six reports of injuries.

Buckyballs and Buckycubes. These high-powered magnet sets contain defects in the design, warnings and instructions. About 3 million sets were sold nationwide and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received 54 reports of children and teens ingesting the product, with 53 of those cases requiring medical interventions. Because Maxfield & Oberton LLC has refused to recall the products, retailers such as Barnes & Noble, Bed Bath & Beyond, Brookstone and Hallmark have agreed to participate in the recall. Currently the CPSC is pursuing legal action against Maxfield & Oberton.

100-pound Propane Cylinders. The propane tanks manufactured by Manchester Tank & Equipment Company can leak fuel and pose a fire hazard. About 7,500 tanks were sold nationwide at propane dealers and hardware stores including Ace, True Value and Tractor Supply. No injuries have been reported so far.

Haier America Chest Freezers. A capacitor in the freezer's circuitry can overheat, posing a fire hazard. This current recall includes 41,000 units. A November 2010 recall included an additional 67,500 freezers. The product was sold by local retailers, regional retailers, Amazon.com and Walmart.com.
