Trucking accidents still occur despite safe car drivers

Most drivers here in Texas and elsewhere know not to be in the blind spot of a semitrailer, cut one off or attempt to pass one on the right in case the truck driver decides to make a turn. These are just some of the precautions that passenger car drivers take in order to avoid trucking accidents. However, all of these safe driving tips go out the window when a trucker fails to take the appropriate safety precautions.

Truck drivers ordinarily only make money when they deliver their loads. Their employers could place unreasonable scheduling requirements on them to get this done. These two factors alone could result in a driver taking unnecessary risks in order to reach a destination.

They may drive at unsafe speeds, which can be dangerous enough in a passenger vehicle, but in a vehicle that weighs several tons and is several feet long, it can be catastrophic. Drivers may also attempt to forgo needed rest in order to keep driving. Concentrated doses of caffeine, nicotine or other stimulants may be used in an attempt to stay awake, but in reality, these efforts may only make things worse. When a truck driver takes chances behind the wheel, it raises the potential for innocent motorists to suffer serious or deadly injuries.

Trucking accidents often cause these types of devastating injuries and disastrous consequences for everyone involved. Presenting the appropriate evidence to a Texas court by establishing that the injuries or deaths resulted from the negligence of the truck driver could cause the court to consider awarding damages to the victims and/or their families, if applicable. Any restitution received from the parties held legally liable could help with unexpected and costly financial losses.
