This past week, a young man was killed after the car he was riding in plunged into Lady Bird Lake.
Around 2 A.M. on Sunday, July 1st Austin police officers saw a Honda Civic lose control and roll into Lady Bird Lake near the I-35 bridge. The officers dove in and rescued the two women in the front seats but were unable to reach 25-year-old Ryan Whittington in the back.
A few hours later, APD dive teams searched the area for Wittington and found him deceased in the water. A wrecker pulled the car from the lake later that morning.
Whittington was an avid tennis player and due to start teaching a tennis camp at the University of Texas San Antonio this summer. He was a graduate of Texas State University and lived in San Marcos. He was here in Austin directing a tennis tournament over the weekend.
The driver of the vehicle, Madeline Rackley, has been charged with intoxicated manslaughter and is being held in the Travis County jail.
At the Kyle Law Firm, we extend our sympathies to both Whittington's and Rackley's families and loved ones. Accidents like this are tragic for everyone involved and serve as another painful reminder why none of us should ever drink and drive.
