5 Tips on How to Drive in the Rain

In Texas, usually we don't have to worry about driving in the rain. So when there is rain, car accidents are likely to occur since most Texan drivers don't know how to handle the bad weather. To help protect you and your loved ones, here are a five tips on how to drive in the rain:

  • Turn on your headlights: Even if you don't think it's dark, turning on your headlights helps other drivers see you in the midst of the rain. One of the most common reasons for a car accident in the rain is because the car wasn't visible to the other driver.
  • Drive extra slow because of slick roads: It's important to drive under the speed limit when the roads are wet. If it hasn't rained for awhile all of the oil and fluids that have been sitting on the dry roads are finally getting washed away, and making the road extra slippery.
  • Don't slam on your brakes when hydroplaning: If your car starts to hydroplane, never suddenly press the brakes because your car might spin out of control. Instead, stay calm, hold the steering wheel tight without turning it, lift your foot off the accelerator, and allow your car to coast until your tires get traction again.
  • Take good care of your tires: To prevent hydroplaning, it's important to make sure that your tires are properly inflated, and have good tread, so they can keep traction with the road even during bad weather.
  • Avoid driving through standing water: It's so easy to lose control of your vehicle if you drive through deep water. Even if you have all wheel drive, if the water is strong enough, it could push your car sideways. If you have no other choice but to drive through the water, drive as slow as possible.

Even if you drive carefully in the rain, others might not. If you or a loved one were the victim of a car accident in Texas due to the negligence of someone else, you deserve justice and compensation.Contact the Texas car accident attorneys at the Kyle Law Firm today and set-up your free, no-obligation consultation.
