6,000 Non-Violent Drug Charge Offenders Will Taste Freedom

The Department of Justice is set to release 6,000 inmates with a non-violent drug charge from federal prison between Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, 2015. These actions resulted from a decision made in 2014 to reduce potential punishment for future drug offenders by the U.S. Sentencing Commission that includes retroactive enforcement.

How To Combat Malicious Prosecution

Formally, malicious prosecution is "an action for damages brought by one against whom a civil suit or criminal proceeding has been unsuccessfully commenced without probable cause and for a purpose other than that of bringing the alleged offender to justice." In plain terms, it is a case filed against a person who accused someone of something in the court of law with baseless and malicious litigation. It exists to protect you from any malicious legal action that is initiated without probable cause or for the sake of harassing you.

DUI: How To Move On

Texas leads the nation in fatal drunk driving accidents with 1,337 in one year. Hays County alone had 194 DUI crashes in 2014. So what does that mean for Texans? On average, the fines are $10,000, but when you add the cost of drug/alcohol classes, driving school, attorney fees, etc., it can become a process that lasts years. That, alone, should be enough reason to stay out of the car when intoxicated over the legal limit. But, if you find yourself with a DUI, it is not the end of the world and there are steps you can take to make sure the charge is taken care of as quickly as possible so you can move forward.
