Whitney A. Wayne earned her bachelor’s degree with University Honors in Corporate Communication and Public Affairs with a specialization in Political Communication from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where she was named one of the 15 prestigious Hunt Leadership Scholars in her class, and attended the University on a full scholarship. She worked for a non-profit agency raising funds and awareness for wounded veterans for a year after college, before deciding to attend the University of Arkansas School of Law (Go Razorbacks!). As she had maintained the dream of being a criminal defense attorney since watching her first episode of “Perry Mason” as a pre-teen, she focused her coursework on criminal law, evidence, trial procedure, and prisoner’s rights. She earned her J.D. from the U of A in 2013, moved back to Texas to clerk for a Federal Magistrate in the Northern District of Texas – Dallas Division, and passed the Texas Bar Exam in November of that year.
After passing the Texas bar, Whitney worked as a prosecutor for a year in Burnet County, Texas, in order to get courtroom experience and advance her knowledge of trial procedure. A year later, realizing her heart was truly in criminal defense, she jumped at the opportunity to work for a state-wide organization focused only on defending cases wherein the State was seeking the death penalty for her clients, the Regional Public Defender for Capital Cases. During this time, Whitney worked as a mitigation specialist in the sentencing phase of trials, fighting to save her clients from the Texas death chamber. After leaving the RPDO, Whitney returned to Arkansas for a bit and passed that state’s bar exam as well, and continued to be sought as a death penalty defense specialist by firms with cases in Arkansas, Georgia, Texas, and Kentucky.
After roughly 8 years of exclusively death penalty defense work, Whitney decided to take a step back and broaden her horizons to general criminal defense work. She worked for two large, prominent firms in Austin before opening her own practice there in 2021. However, after several months of running her own firm, Ms. Wayne was offered a position at a firm in Dallas she could not resist. She worked in criminal defense firms splitting her time between Dallas and Austin between 2021 and 2023, before ultimately deciding to come back home to the Hill Country and join the brilliant team at the Kyle Law Firm. Whitney has tried cases from municipal court tickets to murder trials over the last 13 years, and loves working with clients to achieve their best possible outcomes and protect the rights of all citizens.
When not in the courtroom, Whitney enjoys playing with her Dobermans, Vinny Gambini and Sue Ellen Ewing, and spending time with her fiancée, friends, and family.
